    Problem Statment

    Vantage Commercial’s 4-person legal team was reviewing 140 contracts a month. Every review started with a lawyer reading a full PDF from page one. A renewal deadline was missed. That’s when they called Korvax.

    A holding company's legal team overwhelmed by volume, not complexity

    Vantage Commercial Group is a mid-size holding company headquartered in Abu Dhabi, operating 6 business units across logistics, hospitality, and facilities management. Like most regional holding companies, their commercial activity had grown faster than their legal team. By Q1 2025, a team of 4 in-house counsels was managing somewhere between 120 and 150 new or renewing contracts every month, vendor agreements, service contracts, FM leases, supplier frameworks, employment agreements, and SaaS licenses.

    The review process was entirely manual. Every contract arrived as a PDF, some well-structured, most not ,  and a lawyer read it front to back to find the clauses that mattered: liability cap, renewal terms, termination triggers, governing law, data obligations. The same search, on every document, every time.

    In February 2025, a 3-year FM services contract with an automatic renewal clause rolled over without review. The business was locked into another 3-year term with a supplier whose performance had been under scrutiny. The cost of that missed renewal, in both contract value and management time, is what brought Vantage’s General Counsel, Sara Al Nuaimi, to Korvax.

    “Four lawyers doing 140 contracts a month means each contract gets about 45 minutes of attention if we’re lucky,” she told us. “That’s not enough time to actually read it properly. We skim, we hope we don’t miss anything, and sometimes we do.”

    What Korvax built for Vantage Commercial Group

    The build started with a 3-week knowledge audit. We worked with Sara and two senior counsels to document Vantage’s internal risk framework, their standard positions on 22 clause types across 8 contract categories, their redline playbooks for each entity, and their risk tier definitions. We also inventoried their existing contract archive: 4 years of executed agreements across all 6 entities, totalling 1,847 documents.

    We then built a private AI contract intelligence system trained entirely on Vantage’s own materials, their templates, their playbooks, their annotated historical negotiations, and their entity-specific risk standards. The system has no connection to external legal databases or the internet. Everything it references comes from Vantage’s own approved documentation.

    The build delivered three components:

    1.  An automated extraction engine that ingests every new contract (PDF or Word), produces a structured data object covering all 22 clause types, and flags deviations from Vantage’s standard playbook positions with the relevant internal position shown alongside for immediate reference.

    2.  A natural language query interface where any Vantage lawyer can interrogate the full contract portfolio in plain English: “Show me all agreements governed by ADGM law with liability caps below AED 1 million that renew in the next 60 days.” That query returns results in seconds from across all 6 entities and all 1,847 historical documents.

    3.  An automated obligation tracker that monitors renewal dates, SLA reporting deadlines, and notice periods across the entire portfolio, sending advance notifications to the relevant counsel at 90, 30, and 7 days, replacing the manually updated spreadsheet entirely.

    Build time was 10 weeks. The system went live on 1 April 2025.

    What changed at Vantage Commercial after go-live

    The immediate change was in how lawyers started each review. Instead of opening a PDF and reading from page 1, a counsels opens the system, sees a structured extraction already complete, and engages only with the flagged clauses, the deviations from standard, the unusual terms, the things that actually require legal judgment.

    The missed renewal problem that brought Sara to Korvax in the first place? Within 30 days of go-live, the obligation tracker had already sent advance notifications on 14 upcoming renewals across 3 entities, renewals that were previously tracked on a spreadsheet that was months out of date.

    Sara’s comment at the 60-day review: “I used to think our problem was that we needed more lawyers. It wasn’t. We needed to stop using lawyers as document readers.”
